Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Skillet or grill pan
  • Tongs
  • Plastic wrap

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional, for a tangy kick)
  • 500g (about 1 lb) thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin beef
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and green onion. Stir well to mix all ingredients.
  • Add the sliced beef to the marinade and coat evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for extra flavor.
  • Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef in a single layer, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the beef is browned and caramelized. Avoid overcrowding the pan—cook in batches if needed.
  • If you’re adding onions or other vegetables, add them to the pan and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring until softened.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, and serve hot with rice, lettuce wraps, or other preferred sides.
