Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  • Sift the almond flour and powdered sugar together in a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the almond flour mixture into the egg whites until combined.
  • Add food coloring and vanilla extract, if desired, and continue to fold until the batter is smooth and shiny.
  • Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheets.
  • Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour, or until a skin forms on the surface.
  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 15-18 minutes, or until set.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool completely before filling.
