Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

getcakerecipes
When my kids were younger, there was always something special about making Rice Krispie treats together. It was one of those simple recipes that didn’t take much time but always ended with big smiles. One day, I decided to add a twist to our usual treats by incorporating peanut butter. The moment we tasted them, we knew they were a keeper. The peanut butter adds a rich, creamy flavor that pairs perfectly with the crunch of the Rice Krispies.
Now, I make these peanut butter Rice Krispie treats regularly, especially when we need a quick dessert or snack. They’re easy to make, and it doesn’t take long for them to disappear! Whether you're making them for your family or sharing with friends, this treat never disappoints.

Equipment

  • Large saucepan for melting the ingredients
  • 9x13-inch baking dish for setting the treats
  • Stirring spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 10 oz marshmallows (about 1 bag)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, add the 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup of peanut butter. Stir continuously as they melt together, ensuring they don’t burn. This creates a smooth, rich base that adds a nutty flavor to the treats.
  • Once the butter and peanut butter are fully melted and smooth, add the 10 oz of marshmallows to the saucepan. Stir frequently, allowing the marshmallows to melt completely and combine with the peanut butter mixture. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Once melted, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  • Pour the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal into the melted marshmallow mixture. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, gently fold the cereal into the mixture until it is fully coated. Work quickly, as the marshmallow mixture starts to set as it cools.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Transfer the coated cereal mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly.
Use a buttered spatula or wax paper to gently press the mixture down without compacting it too much—this keeps the treats soft and chewy.
  • Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until they are firm enough to cut into squares.
  • Once set, cut into 12 squares and serve! For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle with melted chocolate or sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
