Equipment

  • Crockpot or slow cooker
  • Large skillet
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground turkey
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, cilantro

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground turkey over medium heat until it’s browned and fully cooked. Break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Once done, transfer the turkey to your crockpot.
  • To the crockpot, add the drained and rinsed beans, diced tomatoes (with their juice), chopped onion, minced garlic, and chicken broth.
  • Sprinkle in the chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined.
  • Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The longer it cooks, the more the flavors will meld together.
  • Once the chili is done cooking, give it a final stir and taste for seasoning. Adjust if needed. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
